Summer ‘25 Week one

Although the first week was a short one with no sessions on Monday, the coaches were ready to hit the ground running. We had our inaugural coaching workshop on Sunday, during which we went over expectations and goals for the summer, as well as some tips for running each session. When Tuesday came around, we went straight into review. Because many of the children had not played tennis since the final day of our program last summer, we started by discussing the lines on the court. First, we reviewed all of the lines, explaining the name of each one and its location on the court. Then, to commit these lines to memory while still having fun, we played an assortment of single-elimination memory/exercise games involving the lines on the court.

On Wednesday, we started off our sessions by discussing the different areas of the court, such as the services boxes and “no-man’s land.” That was a fairly quick and simple topic, so we transitioned into discussing racquet sizes to make sure that each kid could choose a properly sized racquet to play with for the remainder of the summer. On the last day of the week, we did some actual hitting. Specifically, coaches hand-fed forehand and backhand shots so that we could gauge the level of the children and set attainable goals for the summer.
